All The Best Roles Are Written For Men

After months of planning and pitching, All The Best Roles Are Written For Men was premiered as part of Fringe World 2023, and was performed at the Hayman Theatre at Curtin University between the 20th and 29th of January.

Blurb

Every audition room is full to bursting with female talent - so why are there so few roles for women? Is it a relic of historical opression, a by-product of the stories we tell or simply a fact of life? Take a musical journey through classic and contemporary theatre with Kate O'Sullivan, to discover why female theatre artists of all kinds still find themselves bonking their heads on the “glass curtain”, and why all the best roles are written for men.

All The Best Roles Are Written For Men is a one-woman musical cabaret starring Kate O'Sullivan.

The 2023 FringeWorld Season programme included information about the creatives and the data presented in the show.

Reviews

Her passion for storytelling was palpable in the highly immersive performance, through which O’Sullivan’s anger, frustration, and often remorse was well tempered with comedic research insights and sardonic observations. Her clever writing and good understanding of pace made for an entertaining piece of contemporary theatre.
— Bec Weldon, X-Press Magazine
Expertly researched, very well sung, and delivered with passion and humour, this is a clever show with an important message that probably won’t be seen by the people who most need to see it.
